It's a myth that there was a no violence stipulation in Joe's contract. In his 16 shorts he participated in a fair share of the Stooges' style of comedy, much more than "rule was occasionally suspended."

Joe Palma was Shemp's stand-in for only 4 shorts, the four 1956 "fake Shemps." He had supporting roles in many Stooge comedies going back to 1940, some of them prominent like 'Butch' in BEER BARREL POLECATS (1946), the murderer in IF A BODY MEETS A BODY (1945) and one of the cavemen in I'M A MONKEY'S UNCLE (1948).
