Featuring Joe Besser (Solo)
119 min. (Feature Film)
Holly LaMaise (Debbie Reynolds), talented daughter of Broadway headliner Harry LaMaise, goes to work for egotistical, crude dance club owner Tony Vincent (Robert Wagner) when her father is stricken by heart problems. Priest Father Conroy (Bing Crosby) tries to intervene, fearing that she'll become involved with Tony, rather than use the money she earns to finish her college education. Arranging a nationally televised Christmas benefit with the other churches in the theater district, Conroy hopes to find an improved outlet for Holly's talents. But Tony is a user of people, particularly in his treatment of music arranger Phil Stanley (Ray Walston) who deals with it by losing himself in the bottle. Vincent sees the television show as his opportunity to finally hit the big time, and begins using Holly for his own ambitious ends.
Joe Besser costars in a serio-comic role as Joe Greb, Tony's put-upon manager.
Filmed in Technicolor and CinemaScope.
