Benkelman, NE
(Wardell E. Bond)

Prolific supporting actor, often co-starring in the films of John Ford. Best friend of John Wayne, often appearing onscreen together. Will probably be best-remembered as 'Bert' in Frank Capra's IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946). An extreme right-winger, he worked infrequently in the 1950s as "punishment" for his support of McCarthy-ism and Hollywood blacklisting; Bond openly named names. At the time of his death, Bond was starring in the hit television western WAGON TRAIN.
