Featuring Ted Healy and His Stooges
19.8 min. (Short Subject)
Complemented with musical numbers taken from a prior MGM feature, Healy and His Stooges rehash their vaudeville act in this short, with the Stooges and Bonnie coming onto the stage to interrupt Healy while he is singing.
The Stooges were to appear in a segment where they fly around the world backwards, but it was cut from the final version. This footage is discussed, with production photos, in Leonard Maltin's television documentary THE LOST STOOGES (1990).
The musical numbers Happy Landing and Dance Until Dawn were taken from the MGM feature film FLYING HIGH (1931). See The Three Stooges Journal # 52 (Winter 1989).

We open "PLANE NUTS" where we are seeing Moe dressed in a tuxedo as he is now walking out onto a wooden planked stage floor with an ornate gold and red closed stage curtain with braided golden roping with tassels at the end behind him. Moe is now standing there with a really serious look on his face as he has his arms folded behind him.
MOE to the AUDIENCE: {As Moe now has a sweet and smirky smile on his face as Moe is stating to the audience in a mischievous tone of a voice as he is now in the process of taking a bow}: "Ladies and Gentlemen, Ted Healy is next!"
TED to the AUDIENCE: {As Ted is now walking proudly onto the stage dressed in a tuxedo and top hat and is using a walking cane with a really happy look on his face as he is stating to the audience in a polite tone of a voice}: "I thank-you!"
MOE to the AUDIENCE: {As Moe is standing there with his arms by his sides and in a mischievous state says to the audience}: "This is Ted Healy; swhoo!"
TED to MOE: {As Ted is now looking at Moe with a slightly mad look on his face as Ted is stating to Moe in a really mean tone of a voice}: "This is Ted Healy; swhoo!"
We are now in the process of seeing Ted with his right hand on Moe's left shoulder as both Ted and Moe are now looking at one another with devious looks as they are now engaged in laughing wickedly with one another in unison.
TED to MOE: {After they had several rounds of wicked laughter with one another as Ted is now in a full blown state of madness as Ted is now taking his left hand and is cracking Moe hard on his kisser as Ted is shouting to Moe in an evil tone of a voice}: "Back to the rat trap!"
We are now seeing Moe exiting off of the stage with a really hurtful look on his face as Moe is now rubbing his face in a state of pain.
We are now in the process of seeing Ted starting to get ready to a song, this will be his first take.
TED to the BAND: {As Ted now has a serious look on his face and is using hand gestures to silence the band until he is ready to sing and is using a polite tone of a voice}: "Will you play my music, please?" {"How do you like that guy?" "This is Ted Healy......!"}:
TED: {STARTING TO SING: TAKE ONE:}: "NOON-TIME MEANS LUNCHEON:"
TED: {Singing happily}: "Noon!"
Ted has now stopped his singing here to regain his composure and then once again starts to sing as we are now hearing the pianist in the background playing the 'scales' in fun as he is waiting for Ted to start to sing again.
Here we go, we are now in the process of seeing Ted getting ready to try his second take all ready at his song, wish him luck, hope this is a good take!
TED: {STARTING TO SING: TAKE TWO:}: "NOON-TIME MEANS LUNCHEON:"
TED: {As Ted has a serious look on his face and he is trying his darndest to complete his song}: "Noon!"
Once again, Ted is not satisfied with this take of his song so he put a halt to it to regain his composure as he is now straightening his suit jacket and hat and hopefully will be able to do a better take here.
TED: {STARTING TO SING: TAKE THREE}: "NOON-TIME MEANS LUNCHEON:"
TED: {Singing as he has a gleeful look on his face and is using a gleeful tone of a voice}: "Noon-time means luncheon for someone; Night-time means sleep for the same; Day-time means brightness for someone; but me......!"
{As Ted was singing here were are now seeing Mrs. Bonnie Bonnell quietly skipping onto the stage as she is presenting to Ted the most sorriest, sadest, pathetic, mangiest, little, un-loved bouquet of wild-flowers, un-denounced to Ted}:
We are now seeing Ted noticing that sad, pathetic, and mangy little bouquet of wild-flowers as he is now hitting himself in the face with them.
TED: {As he is at first looking at that sorry, sad, pathetic, mangy, and un-loved little bouquet of wild-flowers as he is now tossing them onto the stage floor as he is now looking at the right stage exit door with a really mad look on his face as Ted is using a disgusted tone of a voice}: "Come on, stop that, will you please?"
We are now once again seeing the very persistent Ted trying to complete another take of his song, as this will be his fourth try all ready.
TED: {STARTING TO SING: TAKE FOUR:}: "NOON-TIME MEANS LUNCHEON:"
TED: {Singing gleefully}: "But to me, they all mean......!"
This time the poor and innocent Ted is getting his song interrupted as we are now in the process of hearing the ringing of a pesky little telephone in the background.
TED to the AUDIENCE: {As Ted now stopped his singing again, with a really mad look on his face as Ted is stating in a dazed voice}: "I must be in the wrong theatre; or something!"
No matter what the interuptions are, Ted is going to keep trying to complete his song in it's entirety, if it is the last thing that he does, and at this rate it might be, we are now in the process of trying to complete take five.
TED: {STARTING TO SING: TAKE FIVE:}: "NOON-TIME MEANS LUNCHEON:"
TED: {As he now has a happy look on his face and is using a happy tone of a voice and hand gestures to support himself as he is trying his best to ignore that annoying little telephone that is ringing in the background and tackle his song once again. Ted is now in the process of getting in a 'whole dinah-whoppin' two words}: "The rain......!"
Ted is now getting pretty perturbed as his song is being interrupted so often as this time it is by Moe and Larry as they are now skipping merrily onto the stage as Moe is bringing out a coffee side table and a telephone as Larry is now bringing out a chair as they are now in the process of setting them up.
LARRY to MOE: {As Larry is using a low and mischievous tone of a voice and has a look of mischief on his face as he is stating to Moe}: "All right, wait a minute, don't rush it, I got it, I got it!"
MOE to LARRY: {As Moe has now finished setting down the table and the telephone with a look of mischief on his face and is using a mischievous tone of a voice}: "Coming right up, stop it, right here, stop, right here!"
TED to MOE and LARRY: {As Ted is now approaching them and looking at them with a dazed look on his face and his hands on his waist as Ted is shouting to them in a disgusted voice}: "Boy's, boy's, I, I'm not bothering you fellas, am I?"
LARRY and MOE to TED: {As Larry and Moe are now looking at Ted with really devious looks on their faces as they are stating to Ted in a state of mischief}: "Naha, that's all right, go right ahead, yeah, sure. go right ahead, we've got the table and phone set-up all right, set her up boys!"
We are now seeing Larry and Moe with looks of pride on their faces at the taks tehy well completed as they are now skipping merrily off of the stage.
You guessed it, Ted is never going to give up on trying to complete his song as Ted is now in the process of trying to complete his sixth take.
TED: {STARTING TO SING: TAKE SIX:}: "NOON-TIME MEANS LUNCHEON:"
TED: {As he is trying his best to complete his song as he is now in a full blown state of mischievous madness}: "Noon-time means luncheon for someone!"
Once again, Ted is now getting his song interrupted as that pesky and annoying little telephone keeps on ringing in the background.
TED to the AUDIENCE: {As Ted now has a look of bewilderment on his face as he is stating to the audience in a really apologetic tone of a voice}: "The phone is ringing. I got to answer the phone!"
We are now seeing Ted sitting down at that little coffee side table with a really disgusted look on his face as he is now answering the telephone.
TED to the TELEPHONE: {As Ted has a serious look on his face and is using a serious tone of a voice as Ted is now noticing that he is talking with his Stock Broker}: "Hello, what? Don't Tell me everything is all right in the Market, yes, I......!"
As Ted was trying to complete his business conversation with his Stock Broker we are now in the process of hearing the ringing of a second buggy and pestery little telephone in the background.
TED to LARRY and MOE: {As Ted now has a mad look on his face and is shouting to them in a mad tone of a voice as Ted is now extending the telephone in their direction; {off stage}: "I've got it fellas!"
TED to his STOCK BROKER: {As Ted has a really disgusted look on his face and is using a mad tone of a voice}: "Hello, yes?"
Ted still cannot complete his business call in private with his Stock Broker as that pesky, annoying, buggy, and troublesome second little telephone keeps on ringing in the background.
TED to LARRY and MOE: {As Ted now has a really dazed look on his face as Ted is stating to them in a dazed tone of a voice as Ted is now waving his telephone receiver in their direction; {off stage}, as Ted is stating in a really disgusted voice}: "I've got it, you see, I've got the phone, don't ya?"
Here we are now seeing Moe walking onto the stage in a state of pride as Moe is holding onto a switch-board like contraption which consists of an un-finished wooden frame. There are six cross bars; three vertical and three horizontal inside. On the top of the frame we see three kids toy bycycle bells hooked there. On the middle bar there are three light bulb sockets lined-up neatly and are wired to a metal piping that is hooked onto the entire width of the frame. Plus there are four light switches also neatly lined-up and are also wired to the metal piping. Plus there are two more additional wooden bars, one on the top of the contraption and the second one is at the bottom. On the top board there are three door bell buzzars lined-up and are wired to the metal piping. On the bottom board there are four more door buzzar bells also wired to the metal piping. We are now seeing the door buzzars and the light sockets ringing and lighting up as they are constantly ringing.
We are now in the process of seeing Ted still holding onto his telephone as Ted is now in the process of pushing the second bottom buzzar bell to act like he is shutting off a switch-board extension wire to shut-up the ringing of that annoying second little telephone.
Moe now has a really happy look of accomplishement on his face as Moe is now walking off of the stage in pride with his switch-board contraption.
TED to his STOCK BROKER: {As Ted is still sitting at that little table with a really worried look on his face as he is saying in a really worried tone of a voice}: "Yes, what? bad news? The Market crashed, don't tell me, yes, everything......!"
We are now seeing Moe and Larry running back onto the stage in a state of mischievous hurry as Moe is now grabbing the table and the telephone from Ted and Larry is now in the process of dumping Ted out of the chair.
TED to the AUDIENCE: {As Ted now has a look of mischief on his face and is pointing a finger in the direction of the telephone as Ted is now using a mischievous tone of a voice}: "Heenha-heenha-heenha-heenha-heenha-heenha-heenha-heenha-heenha-heenha; busy line!"
Now let me see, if my memory serves me correctly, we are now in the process of seeing poor Ted trying his seventh take on his song, yes, I did remember right, here we go with take seven.

TED: {Once again with a dazed look on his face as he is trying to complete his song once again}: "Noon-time means luncheon!"
Ted is now once again putting a halt to his singing as he is now again regaining his composure and is trying for a better take.
What, now, if things are serving me correctly, this will be Ted's eighth take on his song, yes, it is take eight!
TED: {STARTING TO SING: TAKE EIGHT:}: "NOON-TIME MEANS LUNCHEON:"
TED: {Singing happily at his eighth take of his song}: "Noon-time means luncheon for someone; {Here we are now seeing Ted looking behind himself and to his sides to see if everything is totally duckey}: {"I'm all right now!"}: Night-time means sleep for the same!"
