The Stooges have been taking care of Mary, their downstairs neighbor who is confined to a wheelchair. The boys have jobs hanging posters at a theatre featuring The Great Svengarlic, a famous hypnotist. Svengarlic is also the leader of a gang of jewel thieves, who plan to rob an office building next door to the theatre. When Svengarlic needs some dupes who will help him put on a public exhibition, distracting everyone from his gang's next robbery, the Stooges are hypnotized to walk out on a flagpole and dance many stories above the street. Svengarlic is knocked unconcious in an accident, and the Stooges awake to find themselves clinging to the flagpole for dear life.

The new footage for FLAGPOLE JITTERS was filmed July 1, 1955; the new footage to FOR CRIMIN' OUT LOUD (1956) was filmed on June 30, 1955. Contrary to what the release dates lead some to think, Shemp's final work before the camera was done for FLAGPOLE JITTERS.

Pretty bad, the only thing saving it is that the stock footage is funny, saving this from a "no-poke" rating and those chorus girls in the new footage are damn hot, so that's worth a few extra pokes.

Horrible remake of HOKUS POKUS. The new storyline was weak, the new scenes terrible, and the ending sucked. And Shemp's failing health is very noticeable here and he barely has anything to do or say. In fact, I think the only thing he really does is that pointless "Jingle Bells" scene. Nothing redeemable at all about this remake, except that at least the reused footage is funny. That's the only reason I can't give terrible remakes like this and RUMPUS IN THE HAREM a BOMB rating.

haven't seen this one in about 6 years but I remember this being a bad short. This was a slap in the face towards Hokus Pokus if you ask me. I'm certainly glad AMC didn't show this one!

You can tell that Shemp is pretty much on his last legs here. A very weak remake, but I did like the bit with Moe and Larry and the whole "maybe it was a cyclone."

Re-Review: This is actually one of the worst remakes because a lot of the new footage is pointless, like when Shemp is crying because the table is backfiring on him in the old footage, Moe in the new footage just says "jughead" and then its back to old footage. The part when the stooges are getting dressed was the only good part of this short, I also thought the jingle bells scene was funny but weird. The rest was pretty bad. Shemp gets very few lines in the new footage while Moe and Larry carry this, and they don't do it that well either. Rating: 62%(D-) Mike HolmeEdited by - Mike Holme on 8/26/01 2:05:02 PM
